In 2014, our mentor Mr. Justin Von Bujdoss founded Rangjung Prison Dharma Project. He organized a group of volunteers to visit and offer meditation programs for correctional officers and incarcerated men and women throughout the NYC Jail system.
During the COVID epidemic, Rikers Island was shut down for volunteers, and we finally resumed our service spring of 2024 as a new organization. Every week, our committed volunteers visit Rikers to guide inmates through meditation sessions.
In the near future, we aspire to extend our program to include prison officers and others recognizing the unique challenges they face and the benefits that mindfulness can bring to their lives as well.
Through these efforts, we aim to foster a more compassionate and mindful environment within the prison system, benefiting both inmates and officers alike.
